Kangchenjunga North and South Face Trek

If you are an adventure lover and you have an excellent physical condition with some really strong nerves, you should try one of the longest and most challenging treks of Nepal. Our three week trek to the North and South base camp of Kangchengjunga is demanding, but not awfully so, and the scenery is beautiful and rewarding.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1

On the very first day of your trip, you will experience something truly Nepalese; traditional Nepalese dinner. But rest assured our representatives will be there to pick you up at the airport, help you check in to your hotel and then take you out for dinner.

Day 2

You will spend the second day sightseeing around Kathmandu - there’s the monkey temple, the Boudhanath Stupa and some ancient heritages of Nepal to be visited. In the latter half of the afternoon our guides will brief you and help you sort out all the equipment for the trip.

Day 3

Meet at our office before flying to Biratnagar. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 4

Catch an early morning flight to the Suketar Airport. The first trekking day is comparatively easy and the walk between Suketar and Phurumbu takes only 3 hours if you are a really good hiker. Since it is your first day trekking, you can walk leisurely and enjoy the scenery around you.

Day 5

Descend to Chirwa, a unique village made up of bamboo houses set among huge boulders.

Day 6

Another day of descent. Cross several rivers fed by the surrounding mountains as you arrive in Sekathum, a Sherpa village located in the confluence of two rivers.

Day 7

The trails gets steep as you make your way to Amjilosa which is located on top of a grassy hill.

Day 8

More steep trails, but the scenery is rewarding - walk across forests of oak and rhododendron on your way to Yangswa.

Day 9

Unlike the previous day today’s climb is not that steep. The day’s destination is Ghunsa, a small Tibetan village inhabited mostly by Tibetan refugees.

Day 10

Hike along a trail that passses through beautiful rhododendron forests, mani walls and chortens on your way to Rampuk Kharka.

Day 11

The landscape starts changing as you climb higher and you enter a truly alpine terrain stopping for the night in Khambachen.

Day 12

An entire day to rest and do nothing at all. If you feel like it explore the valleys around or hike to the Jannu base camp.

Day 13

A strenuous day awaits you as you experience some high altitude trekking and walk across a landslide affected area.

Day 14

Hike to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp) and explore the surrounding settings before returning back to Lhonak.

Day 15

Another day to explore the surrounding hills.

Day 16

Once you adapt to the altitude walking becomes easy - retrace your steps to Ghunsa.

Day 17

An entire day of walking uphill and climbing through several forests to reach Sallerle.

Day 18

After scrambling up some passes drop down steeply to Tseram

Day 19

A short trail that climbs 600 meters takes you to Ramche today. You have the entire afternoon to explore Ramche - visit some frozen lakes and enjoy the mountain vistas around you.

Day 20

Hike to Oktang (Kanchenjunga South Base Camp) and explore the surrounding settings before returning back to Ramche.

Day 21-25

Cross some tricky landslide sections and discover some more remote villages on your way back to Suketar.

Day 26

Catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu and spend the rest of the day strolling around the eateries and souvenir shops of Thamel.

Day 27

An entire day in Kathmandu for yourself. Eat as much as you want, go shopping or do nothing at all! If you’re not trek weary, we’ll take you to the Last Resort for an adrenaline pumping bungee jumping adventure.

Day 28

Again our representatives will be there to transfer you to the airport and bid you farewell.
