Mount Kanchenjunga

Situated in the border of Nepal and Sikkim, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586 m) is the third highest mountain in the world and the easternmost peak over 8,000 m and is part of the Kanchenjunga Massif. Worshipped by people of Eastern Nepal, Darjeeling and Sikkim, the mountain holds a prominent place in the local culture. First ascent by Joe Brown, George Band in 1955, they stopped short of stepping on the summit as a sign of respect to the local belief. Every climbing expedition that have reached the top have respected this informal rule.

To join the expedition, you’ll need to have extensive mountaineering experience and be in top physical and mental health and is not to be taken in a jest. It would be preferable if you have prior experience in climbing 8,000 m plus peaks.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1

On the very first day of your trip, you will experience something truly Nepalese; traditional Nepalese dinner. But rest assured our representatives will be there to pick you up at the airport, help you check in to your hotel and then take you out for dinner.

Day 2

You will spend the second day sightseeing around Kathmandu - there’s the monkey temple, the Boudhanath Stupa and some ancient heritages of Nepal to be visited. In the latter half of the afternoon our guides will brief you and help you sort out all the equipment for the trip.

Day 3-4

On this day, we are busy for briefing about expedition, documentation and last minute shopping and preparation for departure to the trekking and climbing route. You will be kept in get set position.

Day 5

Meet at our office before flying to Biratnagar. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 6

Catch an early morning flight to the Suketar Airport. The first trekking day is comparatively easy and the walk between Suketar and Phurumbu takes only 3 hours if you are a really good hiker. Since it is your first day trekking, you can walk leisurely and enjoy the scenery around you.

Day 7

Descend to Chirwa, a unique village made up of bamboo houses set among huge boulders.

Day 8

Another day of descent. Cross several rivers fed by the surrounding mountains as you arrive in Sekathum, a Sherpa village located in the confluence of two rivers.

Day 9

The trails get steep as you make your way to Amjilosa which is located on top of a grassy hill.

Day 10

More steep trails, but the scenery is rewarding - walk across forests of oak and rhododendron on your way to Yangswa.

Day 11

Unlike the previous day today’s climb is not that steep. The day’s destination is Ghunsa, a small Tibetan village inhabited mostly by Tibetan refugees.

Day 12

Hike along a trail that passes through beautiful rhododendron forests, mani walls and chortens on your way to Rampuk Kharka.

Day 13

The landscape starts changing as you climb higher and you enter a truly alpine terrain stopping for the night in Khambachen.

Day 14

An entire day to rest and do nothing at all. If you feel like it explore the valleys around or hike to the Jannu base camp.

Day 15

A strenuous day awaits you as you experience some high altitude trekking and walk across a landslide affected area.

Day 16

Hike to Pangpema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp) and explore the surrounding settings.

Day 17-40

During this period you’ll stay for a few weeks in the Base Camp where your guides will help you prepare for the climb. You’ll be taught how to use your equipment and get familiar with technical climbing techniques. By Day 40 you’ll have made it to the summit and returned to Base Camp.

Day 41

Retrace your steps back to Lhonak.

Day 42

Once you adapt to the altitude walking becomes easy - retrace your steps to Ghunsa.

Day 43

An entire day of walking uphill and climbing through several forests to reach Sallerle.

Day 44

After scrambling up some passes drop down steeply to Tseram

Day 45

A short trail that climbs 600 meters takes you to Ramche today. You have the entire afternoon to explore Ramche - visit some frozen lakes and enjoy the mountain vistas around you.

Day 46

Hike to Oktang (Kanchenjunga South Base Camp) and explore the surrounding settings before returning back to Ramche.

Day 47-51

Cross some tricky landslide sections and discover some more remote villages on your way back to Suketar.

Day 52

Catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu and spend the rest of the day strolling around the eateries and souvenir shops of Thamel.

Day 53-54

An entire day in Kathmandu for yourself. Eat as much as you want, go shopping or do nothing at all! If you’re not trek weary, we’ll take you to the Last Resort for an adrenaline pumping bungee jumping adventure.

Day 55

Again our representatives will be there to transfer you to the airport and bid you farewell.
