You’ll leave Bagarchhap early in the morning following a relatively easy path to Danagyu, Thanchok and finally Chame. Chame is the headquarters of the Manang district and is quite huge and busy compared to the small settlements that you pass on the way.
No strenuous ascent today - just a steady climb up to Pisang. On the way you’ll pass the villages of Bhratang and Dhukur Pokhari and come across the Swargadwari Danda, a magnificent hill with an impressive snow rock face.
There are two routes to Manang from Pisang - an easy low route and a high route that takes you across some splendid scenery. Our trail takes you on the high route not only because of the views it offers, but also because it offer you the needed acclimatization.
A spare day in the village of Manang helps you in acclimatization and allows you to explore its many interesting places. You can visit the Praken Goma, hike to the Gangapurna Ice Lake and also visit Bragha, another lively village just outside of Manang.

The trail first ascends steeply for two hours and then descends to a river reaching an altitude of 4200 meters before you start climbing again to Thorang Phedi.
Today, we head for Thorong Phedi. It is going to be mostly an easy way walk downhill. However, we do not forget that we are still in high altitude area.
Crossing the Thorang La Pass is hard work, because you wake up really early in the morning to hike across a rugged path which is covered with snow during winter. More than the path, the altitude can make the hike difficult because you climb more than 1000 meters until the pass. The descent is also quite exhausting because the descent is a staggering 1700 meters. After some long hours of climbing, scrambling and descending you’ll reach Muktinath, located just at the foot of the Thorang La mountain pass.
